About 10 days ago, AALF was contacted by former Minnesota State Representative Joe Mullery. Mullery informed us that $102K had been raised to put a bust of Nellie Stone Johnson in the Minnesota State Capitol rotunda, but was $8K short of the $110K needed to secure the placement in the rotunda. Nellie Stone Johnson’s bust would be the first African American to have their bust place in the State Capitol. (for more about Nellie Stone Johnson, read further)
AALF put out a call to action to its members to raise the $8K within one week. When The Minneapolis Foundation found out about the effort, they agreed to contribute half of the $8K and AALF members contributed the other half!! Great teamwork, and a job well done.
