At its annual fundraising dinner on July 15, 2016, AALF Executive Director Jeffrey Hassan announced that AALF will establish a $10,000 scholarship program in the name of Philando Castile, the 32 year old African American man who was fatally shot by a St. Anthony police officer on July 6, 2016. The scholarship will be funded with money raised at AALF’s annual dinner, and will be available to graduates of J.J. Hill Elementary School, who go on to pursue post-secondary educational opportunities. The AALF board will establish the scholarship selection criteria, and announce its implementation before Spring of 2017.
