What grows when we tend different soil?
This question is central to the work of The Forum’s Design and Innovation team and to this historical moment. Many people have expressed shock at the rapid fracturing of social, political, and economic structures and norms under the current federal administration.
But Black communities have long lived in the space between the unraveling of systems that fail us and the birthing of futures that free us.
Our radical imagination has been the engine of our freedom dreams, carrying us through repeated ruptures to design futures that stretch beyond the limits of broken systems. In the current moment, we must again be willing to engage in the active design of new systems, not accepting the limitations of the systems in turmoil. In other words, we must turn our attention to the soil in which we plant our ideas.
