The VP will possess a deep commitment and understanding of the Twin Cities African American community. The ideal candidate will have a proven history of building strong relationships, leading change within our community, and innovating while leading programs.
THE ORGANIZATION:
The African American Leadership Forum is an organization dedicated to improving the experiences and lives of African Americans in Minnesota by building a network of leaders and institutions that convenes, collaborates, and champions solutions. We currently have a network, of more than 5,000 leaders in the Twin Cities. These men and women are committed to our mission and vision.
POSITION:
The VP of Network Development will be responsible for the strategic oversight, direction, and goals of AALF’s Network development, the lifeblood of AALF’s organization. The person in this role will lead in building systems that engage and drive awareness to AALF’s contributors. Critical elements of this role will include the ability to assess the broader needs of all key stakeholders including the Twin Cities African American Community, to ensure organizational objectives and functional goals are in alignment and use findings to inform and influence future systems. VP of Network Development is part of the Leadership team that drives overall strategy for AALF. They will represent strategic impact to the public as well as partners, funders, and our board of directors. This role will collaborate cross-functionally with Collective Impact, Narrative, Operations, and Finance. The VP of Network Development will supervise and support the Network Alignment team.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the mission and vision of the African American Leadership Forum as an organization to develop and implement strategic priorities and goals for all Network Alignment
- Cast vision and strategy for Network Alignment initiatives
- Support the development of Network Engagement and Insights to craft a bold and comprehensive advocacy agenda
- Continuously recommend ways to manifest AALF’s vision and mission along with identifying and securing resources to implement the vision
- Expand revenue-generating activities to support existing strategies and growth
- Lead, supervise and equip Network Alignment staff to drive strategic growth and network development
- Encourage creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurial thought leadership among staff
- Serve as an ambassador for AALF
- Develop and maintain strategic relationships with key stakeholders
- ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Has proven ability to develop and maintain a positive, diverse, creative, and high performing team and culture
- Is a strong developer of others, motivates the team, delegates effectively, and manages team performance
- Establish the functional area budget and expenses in collaboration with the VP of Administration
- Conduct strategic analysis of the network to optimize and broaden AALF’s reach
- Make decisions and act in the best interest of AALF
- Initiate and set department goals according to the strategic objectives of the organization
- Evaluate the performance of staff to direct outcomes, provide feedback when necessary and proactively resolve concerns
- Innovate ways to enhance network effectiveness to progress AALF’s mission and vision
- Serve on relevant board/advisory committee(s)
- REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, four years of equivalent experience and training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience/training
- 8 to 10 years of relevant leadership experience with the increased responsibility of building systems
- Previous experience leading departments or teams of staff
- Strong development of processes with a track record of success
- Outstanding strategic business and leadership skills
- Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills
- Excellent project management skills and demonstrated ability to lead multiple initiatives at the same time
- Leads with strong attention to detail
- Has strong conflict resolution, creative problem solving, and decision-making skills
- Previous experience developing and maintaining positive relationships with community
- Experience convening, facilitating and collaborating in the African American community
